Electric

KBPW’s Electric Department maintains more than 200 miles of electric lines within the City of Kennett. These lines, both overhead and underground, supply electricity to approximately 6,000 businesses and residential customers within the city.

The Electric Department installs new lines, builds new underground services, and maintains and services our existing lines.

Crew members within the Electric Department are devoted to trimming trees in order to keep a safe area around the power lines for a reasonable amount of time.

KBPW’s electric crews pride themselves in providing safe and reliable power for all citizens. While outages are rare, our dedicated crews will work in any kind of weather to restore electric power to our customers. They respond to emergency calls twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to keep the lights on.

Power Line Safety

If you see a power line that has fallen or low-hanging, DO NOT get close to it or touch it! Call KBPW immediately at 888-5366 or 888-2888 to report it. Consider every power line to be energized and dangerous even if there are no sparks! Never touch power lines with other objects such as brooms, boards, limbs or plastic materials. And never touch anything (cars, fences, people) that is in contact with a power line.

Tree Trimming

The trees in this area grow very fast. KBPW’s tree trimming crew members trim a sufficient area around the lines so that limbs are not blown into our lines during periods of high winds such as thunderstorms causing a power outage. Likewise, in the event of an ice storm, the ice on the tree limbs can cause them to become heavy and sag and touch the lines causing power outages.
